how to get all objects with vCenter tag

I'm trying to do two things via vRO in vCenter 5.5

1. Get all objects that are tagged with X
2. get all of a specific object type that are tagged with X (say VMs or distributed virtual port groups)

For number 2, i see the "tag" attribute but it doesn't return a list of vCenter tags like i thought it would.
